How can I create a page?

Who and What

If the page for something doesn't already exist, you can create it. While we think that it's pretty spiffy you want to add something, you must have a user name (no worries, it's free).

Emily and I recently went camping at Great Smoky Mountain National Park (GSMNP). We camped first at Big Creek, and then at Elkmont. Neither were listed on Unearthed Outdoors, but I fixed that. Here I'll show what I needed to do in order to create those campgrounds.

In This Tutorial

Create a Campground in a Park

  • This Park is missing a Campground

    Missing Campgrounds

We stayed at a few nice campgrounds in GSMNP, but they don't seem to be listed here. I've looked around and I can't find them anywhere else (not linked to GSMNP), so we'll need to create them. There are two links on the GSMNP page for creating a campground in the park. One of them is at the bottom of the page in the "Campgrounds" tab.

  • Create Link

The other link for creating a campground is at the bottom of the "General" tab's page. You'll see a list of things there that you can add to the page, like photos, points of interest, streams, and campgrounds. Today we're adding a campground, so click on that link. If you can't find the link, make sure that you are logged in.

  • Fill in the blanks

    Start Filling out the Form

When you start creating the new campground, you'll have to do some research (or at least know the name of the campground). While we were camping at GSMNP, I made a number of waypoints in my GPS unit. We also got some paperwork from the kiosk there. Sometimes you can find useful websites. Put all of that information in here.

The more information you enter, the more useful Unearthed Outdoors can be. For example: using the latitude and longitude, we can automatically position the campground on a map, get the weather and forecast, and calculate distances. Using the ISBN of a useful book, we can get a title, a picture of the cover, a rating, and a short description. Using the street address we can get directions. The list goes on.

  • Pre-Flight

    Preview Submission

Take a few seconds here to make sure everything looks okay on the preview page. In the upper left I've tried to list similar campgrounds. If you find the campground there, don't submit a duplicate. Make sure that everything looks okay, then click "Submit Information". Sometimes we'll need to check over what you've done, other times the website will immediately be updated.

  • Completed

    Found Campgrounds

The planets are aligned, and the campgrounds are in GSMNP. Now I'll be able to write a review, add a photo, or I could add the campground to an itinerary.
