Grand Teton National Park
Grand Teton National Park
-We visited the park on a late Sunday afternoon and early evening in mid-August, having less time than we would have liked
-The park has many excellent stops and overlooks, with great photo opportunities
-We made a quick stop at the Moose Visitor Center, a very good visitor center
-All the turnouts in the Snake River Valley portion of the park provided great views of the Tetons
-The Jenny Lake one-way road was a beautiful diversion off the main park road
-All the turnouts had excellent markers with explanations and identifications
-Signal Mountain Road was a high light, with delicious hand picked huckleberries providing a treat for one from our party; Signal Mountain provided a nice view
-We were able to photograph beautiful sunset views of the Tetons and their reflections on Jackson Lake from the Teton Park Road running along the east side of the lake
-The National Park Service Grand Teton pamphlet provided a superb map of the park and its roads and overlooks, also with explanations of the geologic forces responsible for the landscape and of the natural communities that color the park’s scenery
-We were fortunate that the weather held out through the evening; a few showers fell the night after we toured the park
-Although we had to rush somewhat through the park, we saw a lot during the 3+ hours we had available
-Given that it was a Sunday late afternoon and evening in August with good weather, crowds in the park were only light to moderate
-Ample warnings are given to avoid contact with wildlife, particularly bears
