Wildlife is easy to observe in the open subalpine landscape. These birds and mammals are often seen here.
The Chipmunk is always in motion, searching for seeds, buds and berries.
The Gray Jay, known as the "camp robber" for its foraging habit, is one of the most numerous birds in the park.
The Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel resembles the chipmunk - up to twelve inches long - and has no face stripes.
Clark's Nutcracker lives all year near treeline, and is rarely seen below 3000'.
To the south rises the snowcapped come of Mount Adams. Like Mount Rainier, Mount Adams is part of a chain of volcanic peaks. |
