Lake Washington Ship Canal and Hiram M. Chittenden Locks
-This is located about 5 miles northwest of downtown Seattle
-Ample parking is available on site
-Visitors should allow at least two hours to view operations of the canal/locks and to tour the nearby arboretum and nice gift shop on the premises
-Brochure does a great job of describing the history and operations of the canal/locks
-The canal/locks contain a fish ladder for migratory fish; you can view the fish and the ladder in operation; and an excellent fish ladder brochure provides all the information you need to know about the fish and ladder operations
-It was a pleasure to watch the lock operations; there were a significant number of various sized vessels moving through the locks/canal on this sunny Friday August mid-afternoon. Combined with the above mentioned brochure, it was very educational and amazing to see how many boats fit into the lock area
-Gift shop was nice
-Carl S. English Botanical Garden provided both a beautiful entrance to the canal/locks and a nice walk at the conclusion of our visit
-This was a very enjoyable, informative, inexpensive experience, with many opportunities for excellent photos
