Better Off Peak Times
Devil's Lake is one of those parks that has something for everyone. SCUBA diving, geology, canoeing, rock climbing, and hiking to name a few. It's a rather unique type of lake that was formed as a byproduct of glaciers coming through the area. The moraine left by a glacier dammed up, creating a large lake. Devil's Lake is located where the moraine broke, which is why it is located between two large hills (the moraine).

I've personally found that it's better off peak times. The lake attracts a great number of people for a variety of reasons, but if you hit it on a weekday (especially Tuesday), you will almost be alone in the park.

It's quite a scenic place, and you can easily hike around the park as a day hike.

Be warned, though, that it's subject to flooding. I've been there a number of times and things have been closed due to flood. Because of this flooding, I've rated the upkeep down as simply "average". Wisconsin state parks generally are above average, but Devil's Lake simply does the best they can.
