Easy backpacking trip
I hiked Franconia Brook 04/23/06. It's an old logging rail trail up the valley past Thirteen Falls Tentsite. We did the section from Lincoln Woods Visitor Centre to the Tentsite. Some of the ties are still in the path at the beginning, and there are stone bridge pillars along the way. It's fairly wide in most places, easy walking and a gradual grade. The tricky part is a handful of creek crossings. In summer, I'd suggest shoes off, but in the spring that's pretty darn cold!! We went through many changes of socks. Beavers have rearranged things a bit, there were two places where the trail detoured around ponds and dams. There were many blowdowns across the trail, but my understanding is that the trails are tidied up in the spring for the summer hiking season, so I wouldn't expect those to remain much longer. Along the way there are some views across the valley, and many pretty creeks and waterfalls. You can do a short detour and check out Franconia Falls as well.

We camped off the trail about 3 miles from the parking lot, and then at Thirteen Falls.
